When suburbanites Sadie and Vance try to remedy their marriage by hooking up with the swinging-savvy Janet and Rich, all four find that nothing–even chocolate–is as simple as it seems. The Couple Next Door is a full-length (around 1:40 run time without intermission), thought-provoking adult comedy performed by a four-actor (two men, two women) ensemble on one flexible, domestic unit set.
RICH NELSON: Businessman, early thirties to early forties.
JANET NELSON: Human resources worker, early thirties to early forties.
VANCE LEWIS: Thirty-six or thirty-seven, zookeeper.
SADIE LEWIS: Thirty-five or thirty-six, hotel marketing manager.
Following development in the 2009 workshop at the Road Less Traveled Theater in Buffalo, New York, The Couple Next Door was immediately slated for full production, and opened the 2010-2011 season on September 10, 2010. The four-week run broke box office records, becoming the theater’s second highest-grossing production and the highest grossing world premiere in the theater’s history.
